Female Victim Dead after Head-On Crash near Winslow

WINSLOW, AZ (September 28, 2022) – Early Monday morning, one woman was killed in a wrong-way accident on Interstate 40.

Around 4:00 a.m., police responded to the scene on the westbound lanes of the freeway.

For reasons under investigation, the driver of a sedan was traveling east in the westbound lanes. As a result, the sedan eventually collided head-on with an oncoming tractor-trailer. Upon impact, the sedan split in half.

Medics arrived and pronounced the female driver of the sedan dead at the scene. Investigators say she was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Crews shut down the surrounding area during cleanup and preliminary duties before it was later reopened around 8:00 a.m. An active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
