2 Workers Killed in Train Collision on Bombay Beach [Mecca, CA]

Train Accident near The Salton Sea Left 2 Employees Dead

MECCA, CA (September 13, 2022) – Early Thursday, two workers died on Bombay Beach after a train collision east of Mecca.

The fatal accident occurred at around 3:00 a.m., north of Bombay beach on the north shore of the Salton Sea.

According to initial reports, two trains operated by the two employees entered a siding where they collided with equipment that was in the siding. The impact of the collision caused a 7 train-car derailment. The two workers that were operating the trains were severely injured in the collision.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the site of the crash. There, medics pronounced both Union Pacific employees dead at the scene. At this time, authorities have not released the identities of the workers, pending notification of next of kin.

Meanwhile, Union Pacific is working with the National Transportation Safety Board on the investigation.
