One Dead, One Arrested after Wrong-Way Collision on State Route 52 [San Diego, CA]

49-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Traffic Accident near Convoy Street

SAN DIEGO, CA (August 29, 2022) – Early Friday morning, police responded to a wrong-way collision on State Route 52 that killed one man.

The crash happened on August 26th shortly before 2:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes near Convoy Street and east of Interstate 805, per initial reports.

Furthermore, police said the crash involved a red Honda sedan and a gray Chevrolet pickup truck.

According to authorities, the Honda was driven by a 49-year-old man, a resident of El Cajon. Meanwhile, the pickup truck was driven by a 23-year-old woman from San Diego.

Moreover, the truck was traveling east in the westbound lanes and struck the Honda head-on.

Eventually, the Honda driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the pickup truck driver suffered injuries. Paramedics transported her to the hospital with minor injuries.

Later on, the police took her into custody with DUI charges.

The crash also resulted with closure on all westbound lanes and westbound SR-52 at SR-163, but has since reopened.
