Semi-Truck Carrying Grapes Overturns near Williams Avenue
MERCED COUNTY, CA (August 24, 2022) – Saturday, Zoe Maria Canto was hurt and Ruben Sicairos was involved in a collision on Highway 165.
Officers responded to the scene around 1:47 p.m., at the intersection of Highway 165 and Williams Avenue.
Investigators say Canto was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado east on Williams. Per reports, she stopped at the Highway 165 intersection and proceeded without yielding. As a result, the front of a southbound Freightliner struck the driver’s side of the Chevrolet.
The impact caused the big-rig to overturn onto the roadway, spilling loads of grapes onto the road. However, the driver later identified as 56-year-old Sicairos, of El Centro remained uninjured.
As for the Chevy driver, 20-year-old Zoe Maria Canto was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. Medics transported her to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto.
Following preliminary investigations, officers found large amounts of marijuana, psilocybin, and hashish inside the Chevrolet. At this time, officers have not made any arrests.
