44-Year-Old Male Passenger Dies in Rollover Collision near Mile Marker 8

MENDOCINO, CA (August 19, 2022) – Tuesday morning, 44-year-old Jose Luis Rivera Soto lost his life in a rollover accident on State Highway 162.

The incident occurred on August 16th, at around 1:20 a.m., near mile marker 8.

Investigators say a 28-year-old man from Yuba City was heading east in a red 1996 Ford Ranger. Meanwhile, a 44-year-old man was sitting in the passenger seat.

For reasons still under investigation, the Ford veered off the road and became airborne before overturning several times down a nearby steep embankment. Upon impact, both men were ejected from the vehicle before the Ford came to rest on its roof.

Medical personnel responded to the scene shortly after and pronounced the passenger dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics airlifted the driver to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for further treatment of moderate injuries.

Mendocino authorities later identified the deceased victim as 44-year-old Jose Luis Rivera Soto.
