33-Year-Old Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Car near Leisure Town Road
VACAVILLE, CA (August 17, 2022) – Thursday morning, Tanju Sonar Balci was fatally struck in a bicycle crash on Elmira Road.
The incident happened around 8:30 a.m., near Leisure Town Road. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after on August 11th.
According to Vacaville police, Balci was heading west on Elmira, just before Leisure Town Road when he was rear-ended by a passing vehicle. Due to the impact of the crash, Balci sustained life-threatening injuries.
Emergency crews arrived shortly after and pronounced 33-year-old Balci dead at the scene. Investigators say he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Meanwhile, the driver of the sedan stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigations. Alcohol or drugs does not seem to be the factor in the crash.
Friends of Tanju Sonar Balci have set up a GoFundMe to support the cost of returning his remains to Turkey.
