Man Airlifted after Semi-Truck Collision on Interstate 19 [Tucson, AZ]
Male Driver Hospitalized after Two-Vehicle Crash near Sahuarita Road
TUCSON, AZ (August 5, 2022) – Early Wednesday morning, one man was injured in a semi-truck collision on Interstate 19.
The incident happened around 3:39 a.m., near Sahuarita Road on July 13th.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a semi-truck and another vehicle collided in the area. As a result, one driver was trapped inside the cab of the big-rig.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and extricated the male occupant from the big-rig. Medical personnel then airlifted the victim to a local hospital in Tucson for further treatment of his injuries.
Meanwhile, a cleaning team was dispatched to contain the spill after the truck leaked hazardous materials onto the road. Officials closed the southbound lanes near kilometer meter 75, between Sahuarita Road and Pima Mine Road, during cleanup and preliminary duties.
At this time, further circumstances leading up to the collision remain unclear. However, Tucson officials are currently conducting an investigation.
Because of their sheer size, large vehicles, like semi-trucks and trailers, increase the risk of a crash. If you’re driving one, always be mindful of your vehicle’s large height and weight. Maintain your travel lane and follow the speed limit. Also, adjust accordingly to give way for lane changes and other vehicles.
