Rider Dead after Motorcycle Accident near San Antonio Road
SANTA BARBARA, CA (August 4, 2022) – A motorcycle accident along Highway 1 claimed the life of 33-year-old Faysal Hekmat, last Thursday.
The accident happened 7:40 a.m., July 28th, along Highway 1 near San Antonio Road, per initial reports.
According to Santa Barbara Police, the driver of a GMC Yukon SUV veered onto the southbound lanes, for reasons unknown, colliding head-on with a motorcyclist.
The impact ejected the rider onto the southbound lane where they were hit by another unidentified vehicle.
Responding officials arrived and pronounced the rider, later identified as 33-year-old Hekmat, dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the Yukon driver, 21-year-old Natalia Mesa of Santa Maria, continued heading the wrong way and drove into the center median to avoid a collision.
Medics then rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Moreover, two other drivers who witnessed the incident remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
An active investigation into the fatal motorcycle crash on Highway 1 is currently underway.
