Driver and Passenger Dead Following Two-Vehicle Crash near South Haiwee Canyon Road

LONE PINE, CA (July 29, 2022) – Two people lost their lives Saturday after a car and semi-truck collision on US 395.

The crash occurred at around 1:04 p.m. on northbound U.S. 395 near South Haiwee Canyon Road.

According to reports, a Hyundai Sonata was traveling north on the highway at high speed when it collided with the back of a 2006 Freightliner traveling in the same lane.

Furthermore, the Hyundai attempted to slow down but still collided with the back end of the Freightliner.

First responders pronounced the driver, a 23-year-old man from Las Mesa, and his passenger, a 22-year-old woman from Ashland, dead at the scene.

Authorities have withheld their names at this time. Both directions of the roadway were temporarily shutdown to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.

Meanwhile, the 45-year-old truck driver from Lakewood did not sustain any injuries.

An active investigation is continuing, and authorities will update more information when it becomes available.
