Suspect Arrested after Fatal Bakersfield Hit-and-Run Collision near Highway 178
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 3, 2022) – Saturday, Morgan Lafaye Barber was killed and David Alvarez was arrested after a hit-and-run on Alfred Harrell Highway.
The crash happened around 8:41 p.m., at the intersection of Highway 178 and Alfred Harrell Highway. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.
Investigators say a westbound pickup-truck, driven by Alvarez, struck a woman driving south on Alfred Harrell Highway. The pickup-truck driver then fled the scene upon impact.
Meanwhile, medics pronounced 56-year-old Barber dead at the scene due to the extent of her condition.
Authorities later identified the hit-and-run suspect as 28-year-old David Alvarez, and booked into the Kern County Jail on multiple charges on Sunday.
