Officers Injured in Berkeley Hit-and-Run Accident near University Avenue

BERKELEY, CA (May 27, 2022) – Authorities arrested Jimmy Jimenez following a hit-and-run along Interstate 80, early Tuesday morning.

The crash happened around 12:46 a.m., near University Avenue. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.

Investigators revealed that a Dodge Ram sideswiped an officer’s patrol vehicle and continued to hit an officer who was assisting a driver with a disabled car.

After the impacts, the Dodge immediately fled the scene. Eventually, responders arrived and transported the injured officer to a regional trauma medical center with life-threatening injuries.

Officers managed to locate the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Jimmy Jimenez. Berkeley Officials booked him into Santa Rita Jail with hit-and-run and DUI charges.
