Man Killed, Marcos Salazar Involved in Crash on Highway 101 [Santa Maria, CA]
1 Pronounced Dead after Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision near Main Street
SANTA MARIA, CA (May 12, 2022) – A two-vehicle crash on Highway 101 left Michael James Lewis dead and involved 20-year-old Marcos Salazar.
According to reports, the collision happened around 9:43 a.m., near the Main Street off-ramp.
As one driver attempted to change lanes, a 2007 Nissan 350Z and 2002 Honda CRV collided in the northbound lanes. The impact caused the Honda to overturn several times before crossing the center median and landing on the south side of the highway.
Emergency personnel arrived and transported the Honda driver to Marian Regional Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities later identified the victim as a 68-year-old Michael James Lewis from Nipomo.
The identity of the deceased victim remains unavailable, pending notification from next of kin. Meanwhile, the Nissan driver, identified as 20-year-old Marcos Salazar, remained uninjured.
At this time, Santa Maria Officials are working to identify the circumstances surrounding the crash.
