Driver Arrested after Wrong-Way Accident near Betty Drive
TULARE, CA (April 20, 2022) – Sunday morning, 36-year-old Steffan Coulson was killed in a wrong-way collision on Highway 99.
The accident happened around 4:15 a.m., near Betty Drive. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.
Per reports, 30-year-old Jose Cabrera was driving a 2020 Honda Civic south in the northbound lanes. As a result, Cabrera collided head-on with a southbound 2015 Nissan Versa, driven by Coulson.
Dispatchers located the two involved vehicles severely damaged upon arrival. Due to the impact of the collision, medics pronounced Coulson dead at the scene.
Authorities later arrested Cabrera for multiple felony charges upon his released from the hospital. Crews currently believe he was under the influence at the time.
Meanwhile, friends and family of Coulson started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.
