David Shane McGowan Dead after Two-Vehicle Crash on Rosedale Highway [Bakersfield, CA]

43-Year-Old Victim Pronounced Dead after Car Crash near Renfro Road

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 31, 2022) – Monday evening, David Shane McGowan died in a two-vehicle crash on Rosedale Highway.

According to California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 6:42 p.m., on March 28. Crews arrived to the scene near Renfro Road.

Officers learned that 43-year-old McGowan was driving a BMW, stopped in the westbound lanes at a red light at the intersection. After the light turned green, McGowan rapidly accelerated his car, eventually losing control of the vehicle.

The BMW driver then traveled into the eastbound lanes and crashed into a Ford. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced McGowan dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the Ford driver was taken to Kern Medical Center with moderate injuries. Investigators say that speed and rainy weather conditions were likely factors contributing to the incident.

Following preliminary duties, crews do not believe that alcohol or drugs contributed. Although, an active investigation is still underway.
