17-Year-Old Girl Dies in 2-Car Collision on Jensen Avenue; Michael Mendoza Arrested
FRESNO, CA (March 24, 2022) – Friday evening, 17-year-old Sarahi Ramirez died in a two-vehicle accident on Marks Avenue.
The crash occurred some time before 8:30 p.m., at the intersection of Marks and Jensen Avenue.
Police said an SUV driven by 25-year-old Michael Mendoza was heading north on Marks Avenue at 55 miles per hour. After failing to yield at the stop sign on Marks, he drove into the intersection.
There, Mendoza’s vehicle crashed into the driver door of another SUV, occupied by Ramirez, that was heading west on Jensen Avenue.
Mendoza, whose seat belt was off at the time of the collision, was ejected from his vehicle into a nearby field.
Meanwhile, Ramirez of Fresno, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries and died.
Officers arrested Mendoza on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
