Wrong-Way Accident on 215 Freeway Kills 2 Drivers [Riverside, CA]

At Least Two Dead after Two-Vehicle Collision near Center Street

RIVERSIDE, CA (March 17, 2022) – Early Tuesday morning, two drivers were killed in a wrong-way accident on 215 Freeway.

Officers responded to the scene on the northbound lanes of the freeway near Center Street, around 12:41 a.m. on March 15.

For reasons unknown, the driver of a Ford Fusion was heading south in the northbound lanes just south of the San Bernardino County line. As a result, the Fusion eventually collided with a Ford Focus in the carpool lane.

According to reports, the two-vehicle collision trapped both drivers inside their vehicles. Although, the events that led to the crash remain unknown.

Responding officers used firefighting tools to extricate the trapped victims. Despite life-saving attempts, medics pronounced both drivers dead at the scene.

Investigators say there were no passengers inside either of the vehicles. At this time, officials have not released the name, age, or city of residence of the deceased victims.

Moreover, officers were forced to close the area for several hours to investigate the incident. More information will be provided once made available to the public.
