Teen Killed, 3 Injured in Two-Car Collision on East Mt. Whitney Avenue
FRESNO, CA (March 10, 2022) – A rollover crash on Cedar Street claimed the life of Marissa Cardona, Saturday morning.
According to the police, the incident happened around 7:00 a.m., at the intersection of Mt. Whitney Avenue and Cedar Street.
California Highway Patrol officers say that the crash involved two vehicles, including a Lexus and a Honda Accord.
Eventually, the investigators learned that the Lexus driver failed to stop at the intersection and proceeded through into the path of an oncoming Honda.
As a result, the collision occurred, sending both vehicles off the road through a chain-link fence and into a dirt lot. The Honda then came to rest on its wheels while the Lexus overturned multiple times.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, 14-year-old Cardona, who was inside the Honda, died at the scene. Meanwhile, a 15-year-old passenger from inside the Lexus sustained life-threatening injuries.
In addition, paramedics also transported two adults to CRMC for treatment of major injuries. At this time, Fresno County officials are still working to identify the circumstances surrounding the crash.
