7-Year-Old Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Collision near Jones Boulevard

LAS VEGAS, NV (March 8, 2022) – Thursday night, 7-year-old Leo Leal was struck and killed in a skateboard crash near Harmon Avenue.

Shortly after 6:00 p.m., the incident occurred on Alexis Drive, just south of River Glen Drive.

Witnesses say the boy was riding along a downward slope while sitting on a skateboard. For reasons unknown, he rolled into the roadway where the driver of a northbound Nissan Maxima struck the right side of him and knocked him to the ground.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics transported the boy to UMC Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, Leal later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Nissan stayed on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Following preliminary investigations, crews ruled out impairment as a potential factor.

The young boy’s death was the 24th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2022. At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
