Franco Vargas Dies in Motorcycle Crash on Southern Avenue [Phoenix, AZ]

39-Year-Old Motorcyclist Fatally Struck in Collision on 24th Street

PHOENIX, AZ (March 2, 2022) – Thursday afternoon, Franco Vargas was killed in a motorcycle crash on Southern Avenue.

Officers responded to the scene around 3:00 p.m., near Southern Avenue and 24th Street after receiving multiple dispatch calls in the area.

According to reports, 39-year-old Vargas was riding a motorcycle west on Southern Avenue when the motorcycle collided with a pickup-truck. Investigators say that the truck driver was initiating a turn from Southern Avenue to 22nd Place.

Due to the impact of the collision, paramedics transported the severely injured rider for further treatment. However, 39-year-old Vargas later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Meanwhile, the other parties involved in the collision stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities.

Both directions of the roadway were temporarily shutdown to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.

Police believed that impairment was not a factor in the accident. However, the crash is still being investigated.
