17-Year-Old Driver Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision near Clarendon Avenue
PHOENIX, AZ (February 17, 2022) – Friday morning, Hector Ruiz-Verdoza was killed, and two were hurt in a multi-car accident on 19th Avenue.
The crash took place near the intersection of Clarendon and 19th Avenue around 7:45 a.m. Police responded to the scene after receiving multiple dispatch calls in the area.
Per reports, the driver of a black sedan was traveling south on 19th and struck a gold sedan. In addition, the force pushed the black sedan into a nearby maroon SUV that was stopped at a red light.
The driver of the black sedan, later identified as 17-year-old Ruiz-Verdoza, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported a passenger from the black sedan and the driver of the maroon SUV to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the others involved. Following preliminary investigations, police believed that impairment was not a factor in the crash. Although, an active investigation remains ongoing.
