69-Year Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Deadly Accident near Mather Drive
SAN JOSE, CA (February 8, 2022) – Wednesday evening, Oscar Ysit Gutierrez was killed in a pedestrian collision on North Jackson Avenue.
The San Jose Police Department responded to the scene around 7:40 p.m., after receiving multiple dispatch calls in the area.
Per reports, the 69-year old pedestrian was walking across North Jackson Avenue near Mather Drive. There, a passing Toyota SUV struck him while at the intersection.
Due to the impact, Gutierrez suffered life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews took him to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced him dead.
Police said Gutierrrez was in between crosswalks and the driver of the SUV had a green light.
Moreover, crews initially reported the incident as a hit-and-run. However, the driver called 911 after leaving the scene before returning and cooperating with authorities.
At this time, police have not released any further information regarding the deadly accident. Once available, further details will be provided.
