Fabian Grimaldo Arrested after DUI Collision near Bethany Homes Road
LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ (February 1, 2022) – Friday morning, Brian Vaughn and Joaquin Santiago Ruiz were killed in a wrong-way crash on Loop 303.
Just before 4:00 a.m., the accident happened on the southbound lanes of the highway near Bethany Homes Road. Officers say two vehicles were involved.
Per reports, the driver of a pickup-truck was heading north along the southbound lanes. As a result, the truck eventually collided head-on with an oncoming southbound SUV.
Authorities later identified the driver of the SUV as 61-year-old Vaughn. Due to the extent of his condition, medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old Ruiz, a passenger in the truck, later died after being transported to a local hospital.
Moreover, crews took 21-year-old Fabian Grimaldo to a hospital and accused him of driving the wrong way. Officers later placed him in jail after his release from the hospital. On January 30, he posted a $200,000 bond and was freed.
According to court papers, Grimaldo’s blood alcohol level was approximately three times the legal limit at the time of the collision.
