Fatal Wrong-Way Collision on Interstate 10 [Phoenix, AZ]
1 Killed in Deadly Auto Accident near 27th Avenue in Phoenix
PHOENIX, AZ (January 6, 2022) – Early Thursday morning, one person was killed in a fatal wrong-way collision on Interstate 10.
The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m., on the westbound lanes of the highway. Crews responded to the scene near 27th Avenue shortly after.
According to reports, the incident began during a domestic quarrel between a man and his girlfriend in different automobiles. The man attempted to push the girlfriend’s car off the road while driving a pickup-truck.
The male pickup-truck driver then spun off and drove in the wrong direction on the road, colliding with a Dodge Durango. The Dodge driver was seriously injured but is expected to recover.
Paramedics responded and pronounced the truck driver deceased at the scene.
According to DPS, the girlfriend involved in the first incident was not hurt when she ran off the road.
Due to the investigation, the westbound lanes were stopped for many hours.
