59-Year-Old Man Dies in Fiery Collision near McDowell Road

PHOENIX, AZ (November 8, 2021) – Tuesday afternoon, November 2, Michael Blanton, 59, died in a fiery crash on 52nd Street.

The accident took place around 6:30 p.m., on 52nd Street just north of McDowell Road. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after.

When firemen arrived, a USPS truck was on fire, and one person in another vehicle needed to be extricated from their vehicle.

According to authorities, the postal vehicle had pulled over to the side of the road when it was hit by a box truck. The USPS van caught fire at that point, unfortunately killing Blanton.

According to Phoenix Firefighters, the second driver, a male in his 30s, was brought to the hospital in a critical condition.

As per police, impairment does not appear to be a role in the incident.

Additionally, an investigation is now currently in progress.
