78-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Crash near Interstate 5 in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (November 2, 2021) – Monday morning, 78-year-old Timothy McGregor was killed in a deadly accident on State Route 905.
The collision happened around 6:45 a.m., on the westbound lanes of the freeway. Dispatchers arrived to the scene just east of Interstate 5 shortly after.
Officers say a Chevrolet truck was towing a small fishing boat when for reasons unknown, the hitch suddenly detached. The passenger of the Chevy, McGregor, then exited the vehicle to see if the issue could be fixed.
Shortly after, the driver of a Honda CRV failed to noticed the stopped vehicle and struck the rear of the fishing boat. The impact pushed the trailer into the passenger, causing fatal injuries to McGregor. The Honda continued forward and also struck the rear of the Chevy.
The two right lanes of westbound SR-905 were closed for four hours while officers investigated the collision. The fast lane remained open and traffic was not affected.
The driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It was not immediately known if fog had reduced visibility on the roadway, and played a factor in the crash.
No other information has been released.
We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Timothy McGregor. May you find comfort and strength during this time.
