Crash on Highway 74 Injures Two Riders, One Required Airlift

MOUNTAIN CENTER, CA (November 1, 2021) – Friday afternoon on October 22, two motorcyclists were injured in a crash on Highway 74.

California Highway Patrol said the crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. just west of Mountain Center.

Riverside County Fire Department crew were investigating a separate non-injury accident involving a sedan that plunged down an embankment when the motorcycles went down a few miles away. Details on the sedan crash were not immediately available.

Officials said firefighters proceeded to the motorcycle wreck and found one rider critically injured and another with minor injuries. An emergency airlift was requested for the rider with major injuries, while the second man declined medical attention.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes on the 74 remained open, while CHP officers continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

More information will be provided once available.

Motorcyclists rarely escape injury when an accident occurs. It is important to never underestimate the bike’s speed when you’re riding a motorcycle. Additionally, strictly follow traffic laws and the conditions of the road. For other drivers, do not tailgate a motorcyclist and maintain a safe following distance. Give motorcyclists a full traffic lane when you pass, as they too have equal rights on the road.
