CHULA VISTA, CA (November 1, 2021) – Three people were hospitalized following a traffic collision on Interstate 5, early Monday morning.
The accident occurred around 12:30 a.m., on the northbound lanes of the freeway, just north of Palomar Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, three victims sustained injuries after their 2004 Mercedes-Benz collided with a boat that had fallen from a trailer on I-5.
As per CHP officers, a 30-foot-long boat fell off the trailer that was towing it, but the trailer proceeded north.
The driver, a 48-year-old male from Spring Valley was able to extricate himself from the vehicle. However, emergency crews had to cut through the roof to reach two trapped passengers inside.
Paramedics then took the two injured passengers to UCSD Hospital. The driver, on the other hand, suffered only minor injuries, according to the CHP.
Chula Vista police are still looking for the driver who was transporting the boat at this time. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the CHP.
