1 Dead after Bicycle Accident on Highway 140 [Merced, CA]
Bicyclist Fatally Struck in Collision near Lincoln Boulevard in Merced
MERCED, CA (October 22, 2021) – One man tragically died early Sunday morning following a bicycle accident on Highway 140.
The collision happened just before 4:30 a.m., in the area of Highway 140 and Lincoln Boulevard. Emergency crews responded to the area shortly after.
According to CHP officers, Shane Desalles Sr. was driving a 1997 GMC Sierra east on the highway when he struck the bicyclist from behind.
Paramedics took the biker to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities withheld his identity until his next of kin is notified.
Meanwhile, officials stated that the driver of the truck was not injured and stayed at the site to assist with officers.
At this time, CHP officials believe that neither drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. However, an active investigation is underway.
