Multiple Hurt, 1 Killed in Fatal Accident near San Marcos Road
SAN MIGUEL, CA (September 28, 2021) – Wednesday, a man was killed and Maricela Vasquez and Raul Gonzalez were hurt in a crash on Highway 101.
The collision happened around 12:45 p.m., on September 22. Crews arrived to the scene on Highway 101 near San Marcos Road.
According to the CHP, the driver of a 2003 Nissan Frontier was traveling northbound. Due to tire failure, he slammed on his brakes and steered to the left. He then crossed over the center median and into the southbound lanes before overturning.
As a result of the crash, the 38-year-old driver was pinned underneath the vehicle. Medics transported him by air ambulance to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, where he was pronounced dead.
In addition, officers located two passengers inside the Nissan with moderate injuries. They were later identified as 22-year-old Raul Gonzalez and 37-year-old Maricela Vasquez. Both passengers were from San Miguel.
At this time, officials have not released the names of the deceased victim. However, an active investigation is underway.
