Fatal Fiery Semi-Truck Collision on Interstate 5 [Tacoma, WA]
Multiple Lanes Closed after Deadly Big-Rig Crash near Portland Avenue
TACOMA, WA (September 28, 2021) – Early Tuesday morning, the freeway was closed after a fatal semi-truck collision on Interstate 5.
According to reports, the crash happened around 2:00 a.m., near Portland Avenue East. Dispatchers arrived to the scene shortly after.
At this time, the events leading up to the accident are unclear. However, reports indicate that the driver of a semi-truck lost control and swerved into the center median.
As a result of the impact, the vehicle became engulfed in flames. Crews located the driver stuck inside the large semi-truck.
Due to the extent of injuries, the driver was pronounced dead on scene. Their identity has not yet been released.
Investigators are unsure as to whether the driver fell asleep or possibly suffered a medical emergency.
All lanes of Interstate 5 were closed for about 5 hours during preliminary duties. One lane has since been reopened, and traffic is still backed up in the area.
Further details leading up to the collision remain unknown. However, an active investigation is still currently underway.
