Fatal Car Crash on Highway 101 Ends with 1 Injured and 1 Dead
AVILA BEACH, CA (September 27, 2021) – 19-year-old Andres Candelas lost his life Tuesday morning following a fatal single-car crash on Highway 101.
The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. on September 21, in the area of Highway 101 at Avila Beach Drive.
According to reports, a 21-year-old from San Luis Obispo, driving a Dodge Charger, for unknown reasons, allowed his vehicle to travel off the right side of the roadway and crashed into a freeway sign.
Due to the force from the impact, the Dodge bounced and continued off the dirt shoulder of the highway.
Police pronounced Candelas dead at the scene. Meanwhile, medics extricated the driver and rushed him to a local hospital with major injuries.
While it is early in the investigation, authorities said it does not look like intoxication contributed to the crash.
