Driver Arrested after DUI Collision on Highway 99; Derrick Simpson Killed
SACRAMENTO, CA (September 20, 2021) – 48-year-old Derrick Simpson lost his life and 34-year-old Jacob McPherson was arrested after a DUI collision on Highway 99 last Thursday.
The CHP responded to the area of Calvine Road east of Power Inn Road to reports of a stolen car that drove off the southbound of Highway 99 heading the opposite way and crashed head-on into another vehicle.
According to the reports, the suspect driver was Jacob McPherson, 34, along with a male passenger, were rushed to the hospital with major injuries. Unfortunately, the passenger died due to his injuries.
Authorities identified the passenger as 48-year-old Derrick Simpson.
Meanwhile, medics also transported the other vehicle driver to the hospital with major non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators suspected McPherson was under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the tragic event.
The investigation into the fatal DUI car crash on Highway 99 is ongoing.
