Driver Dead after Crashing Head-On into a Big Rig on Highway 180 near San Benito Road
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (August 11, 2021) – A Mendota man died tragically Monday evening following a head-on collision on Highway 180 involving a big rig.
The fatal crash happened around 7:30 p.m. August 9, on Highway 180 near San Benito Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevy Silverado was driving westbound on the highway when, for unknown reasons, the driver abruptly veered into the opposite lanes and collided head-on with a big rig.
Responding emergency crews declared the Mendota man, who was only described as a male in his 60s, dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the big rig driver did not sustain any injuries per officials.
At this time, it is unknown whether speed, drugs, or alcohol played a role in the crash. However, an active investigation is underway.
