72-Year-Old Man Dies in Crash near Gilmore Avenue in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 27, 2021) – Monday night, Vardges Aramovich Arakelian was killed in a two-car accident on Highway 99 in Bakersfield.
The fatal crash occurred around 6:00 p.m., on the highway just north of Gilmore Avenue. Dispatchers arrived to the area shortly after.
According to CHP, the 72-year-old man from Van Nuys was driving southbound on the highway when he collided with another vehicle.
Due to the impact, Arakelian suffered life-threatening injuries before he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, California Highway Patrol officials are still trying to determine whether speed, drugs, or alcohol played a factor in the accident.
In addition, Highway 99 was closed during cleanup and preliminary duties. But, the roadway has since reopened to traffic.
No further information has been given. However, an active investigation is still currently underway.
