One Killed, One Injured in Deadly Crash on 71st Avenue [Phoenix, AZ]
Suspect Arrested after Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident near Thomas Road
PHOENIX, AZ (July 23, 2021) – Friday morning, July 9, one person died, and another was seriously injured in a crash on 71st Avenue.
The crash took place just after midnight at the intersection of 71st Avenue and Thomas Road.
A Chevrolet Silverado truck was heading west on Thomas Road and turned left onto southbound 71st Avenue. Meanwhile, a Ford Focus was heading east on Thomas Road and collided with the Silverado at the intersection.
Then, the male driver of a Chevy Avalanche stopped and exited his vehicle to assist those involved in the accident.
Two occupants of the Silverado then retrieved weapons and ammunition before stealing the Avalanche and fleeing.
Officers located the stolen vehicle leaving a residence near 75th Avenue and Palm Lane.
The suspects were then apprehended by police at 75th Avenue and Palm Lane. The driver, who was a passenger in the Silverado at the time of the collision, was arrested.
In addition, 71st Avenue was closed during the investigation. Shortly after 11:00 a.m., the area reopened.
