Fatal Bicycle Crash in La Jolla Results in One Fatality

LA JOLLA, CA (June 29, 2021) – Wednesday, a woman was struck and killed in a bicycle accident on Torrey Pines Road near La Jolla Village Drive.

The fatal crash occurred at 4:20 p.m., in the southbound lanes of North Torrey Pines Road approaching La Jolla Village Drive.

Later, police determined that a 74-year-old man was driving a 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL500. Per reports, he struck the woman on a bicycle when she merged into the left lane.

Tragically, the woman died at the scene and her identity remains unavailable, pending notification from their family members.

In addition, the police department’s traffic division took over the investigation of the bicycle accident.

Authorities ruled out intoxication as a factor that contributed to the crash.
