Two-Vehicle Crash in Palermo Injures 3 Including a CHP Officer
PALERMO, CA (June 11, 2021) – Sunday, Benjamin Caldeira, Daniel Drummon and a CHP Officer were all injured in a crash on Palermo Road.
The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m., at Palermo Road and Lone Tree Road. Officer Vue attempted to stop a driver that was suspected to be under the influence.
While trying to pull over the driver, a southbound 2008 silver Kia Rio struck the patrol vehicle. Consequently, Officer Vue’s vehicle overturned down an embankment multiple times before coming to stop.
Meanwhile, the Kia also spun out of control and stopped on the north shoulder of Palermo Road. Eventually, Officer Vue exited his vehicle and helped 21-year-old Benjamin Caldeira and 22-year-old Daniel Drummond.
Medical personnel airlifted one of the Kia occupants to Enloe Medical Center and the other in an ambulance. Paramedics also transported Officer Vue to Oroville Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
At this time, officers have ruled out alcohol as a possible factor that contributed to the accident. However, an active investigation is still underway.
