Martha Romo Killed in Street Racing Car Crash on L Street [Chula, CA]
57-Year-Old Woman Dies in Deadly Street Racing Accident on L Street; Driver Arrested
CHULA, CA (June 8, 2021) – Martha Romo died and two kids sustained injuries Saturday evening after two speeding cars hit their vehicle on L Street.
The tragic incident happened around 6:00 p.m. on June 7, at the intersection of L Street and Third Avenue.
According to officials, Martha Bertha Villalobos Romo, 57, was driving on 3rd Avenue in Chula Vista with her grandchildren, ages 10 and 7, when the accident occurred.
Villalobos Romo died as a result of traumatic injuries, according to the medical examiner. Her grandchildren, on the other hand, were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
CHP identified the wrong-way driver of the Mustang as Alonso Pina, 22, who was also taken to the hospital with injuries.
Pina was later arrested for vehicular manslaughter, and the second racing vehicle fled the scene and is still at large, according to police.
Authorities are looking for the other suspect, who is described as driving a white Subaru WRX from 2014 or later. Anyone with information about the vehicle can reach CVPD at 619-409-3817.
