Wrong-Way Driver Killed in DUI Crash on Highway 99 near Fulkerth Road
TURLOCK, CA (June 4, 2021) – Tuesday night, 44-year-old Marvin Hernandez died after a deadly wrong-way collision on Highway 99.
The incident occurred near Fulkerth Road around 10:00 p.m., on June 1. Officers discovered a man slumped over the steering wheel of a red Ford Focus facing the wrong way on Highway 99.
When officers knocked on his car window, the driver suddenly accelerated, and overtook them. He then collided head-on with an oncoming truck before striking the center divider.
Medics pronounced Hernandez dead at the scene, due to the extent of his injuries.
Meanwhile, two of the Chevrolet truck’s occupants were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Following preliminary investigation, authorities suspected that Hernandez was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
The southbound lanes were closed until 7:00 a.m., the next morning as officers investigated the collision. But, the roadway has since reopened.
