Driver Arrested after Killing Passenger in Highway 99 Car Crash

GALT, CA (May 6, 2021) – Sunday morning, authorities arrested a driver for manslaughter after a deadly car crash on Highway 99.

The fatal crash occurred around 3:46 a.m., along the southbound lanes just north of Twin Cities Road, according to CHP.

In addition, the reports stated that the driver of a 2002 Chevy Silverado drove at about 70 MPH while going southbound north of Twin Cities Road.

Suddenly, the driver veered left and hit a wood post-metal guardrail in the center median.

As a result, the car jumped across two lanes and rolled over in a dirt shoulder as it ejected the passenger in the process. Due to the impact of the crash, one passenger died at the scene.

Furthermore, the police say two occupants inside the Silverado were not wearing seatbelts at the time.

Later on, CHP officials discovered evidence of intoxication from the driver and charged him with felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.

The identity of the passenger who died in the crash remains undisclosed by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. More information will be released once available.
