Catherine Winegar and Alexis Wilson Pronounced Dead, 5 Hurt after Fatal Crash on U.S. 93 [Wickenburg, AZ]
Trooper Airlifted after Deadly Car Accident near Wickenburg
WICKENBURG, AZ (May 4, 2021) – Friday night, Catherine Winegar and Alexis Wilson were killed, and 5 were injured in a fatal crash on U.S. 93.
At around 8:30 p.m., 43-year-old Winegar called officers for help near milepost 172. According to CHP, she said her Chevrolet Suburban was low on gas and she would not make it to the nearest gas station.
A trooper then offered to follow her to make sure she arrived safely. As the Chevy and patrol vehicle began heading south on the highway, a northbound 2011 Honda Accord, driven by 23-year-old Wilson of Chandler, was speeding and passing in no-pass zones.
Shortly after, Wilson struck Winegar’s vehicle head-on, causing the vehicle to roll over and block the northbound lane.
Meanwhile, Wilson’s Chevy spun out and struck the patrol vehicle. The Chevy was then struck by a passing Toyota Corolla.
Due to the impact of the crash, the trooper was trapped inside his vehicle, and pulled out by two samaritans before the vehicle became engulfed in flames. He was airlifted to a local hospital with non-life threatening wounds.
Paramedics pronounced both Winegar and Wilson dead at the scene. Two people inside Wilson’s car and two people inside Winegar’s car were taken to local hospitals. They were said to be suffering from non-life threatening injuries.
At this time, authorities have not yet released any further information.
