Madalena Mendonca Killed, Austin Clark Arrested after Crash on 40th Street [Phoenix, AZ]
Woman Dies in Fatal Accident on Washington Street in Phoenix
PHOENIX, AZ (April 1, 2021) – Monday morning, Madalena Mendonca was killed, and Austin Clark was arrested after an accident on 40th Street.
The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. Dispatchers arrived to the intersection of 40th and Washington Street, shortly after.
Clark was driving his Chevrolet Camaro at 88 mph when he failed to stop at a red light, and struck an SUV.
The driver of the SUV, 40-year-old Mendonca, was in critical condition when medics arrived.
Mendonca was quickly taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment. However, she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Moreover, her 19-year-old passenger was also in serious condition.
One of the vehicles spun out of control and struck a 64-year-old pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered moderate injuries and is expected to be okay.
Following investigations, 28-year-old Clark was booked into jail on suspicion of manslaughter, endangerment, and aggravated assault.
Per reports, the wreck caused major interruption in the light rail service for hours.
